Strawberry Hill, probably due to its position in the middle of a suburban area, has a relatively large group of social members, who limit their use of the club to the clubhouse. Several are partners of golfers or were golfers themselves in the past but there are others who use the clubhouse as their local who just pop in for lunch regularly or for a drink on the way home during the week. We have a relatively busy schedule of dinners and evening events throughout the year, including quiz nights or supper evenings and we also have a very big bridge section, with regular bridge events and competitive matches against other clubs. The members of the two local Rotary clubs that use the club as their base are also listed among our social members.
The social members naturally benefit from the discounted prices of drinks in the clubhouse. Whatever their reasons for joining this part of our membership, our social members help ensure that the clubhouse is well used at all times and is welcoming to visitors, and it ensures that the conversation is not limited entirely to analysis of the last 18 holes.
